At his 4-year-old test, he scored an excellent 8.18 for jumping. Clearly, the crossover behind Comme Le Père was a wise one. With a full gallop, he moves with great commitment and balance.

Back in 2004, the best mare of all time, Ratina Z (Gold Medalist at the Atlanta Olympics and the La Haie and Mannheim WEGs, winner of the Gothenburg World Cup Final and the Aix La Chapelle GP with Ludger Beerbaum) was crossed with a young 5-year-old stallion named Cornet Obolensky. “old mare, young stallion” as the saying goes.

The crossover works perfectly and, to put it bluntly, “Comme Il Faut”. Bet won, at 11, in 2016 Comme Il Faut is one of the best horses in the world with Mr Ehning.

The story could have ended there, but now everything is accelerating at the top level: in 2013, Comme Il Faut, at 8 years old, is crossed with the full sister of the stallion Completto, one of the best families in the world, that of Padua, Zandor Z, Clinton 1, Levisto Z, Poor Boy, Sonora La Silla, all great winners at the highest level.

The result was Comme Le Père, a young Westphalian stallion who was approved as a 2-year-old stallion in Hanover in 2016. Ludger Beerbaum buys it on the spot.

10/10 for these two successive crosses, well in phase with the necessary acceleration of genetic progress.

Breeding takes so long that we need to move fast, using innovative male genetics. Soon Comme Il Faut will be eclipsed by one of its sons. Such is the harsh and implacable law of innovation.

Some will say that using a young stallion is risky, but in the end, is the risk really less? Between very expensive, low-fertility, soon-to-be-outdated grandpas and young, future-proof, cheap, vigorous seedlings. Who to choose?

Crossing advice

As a sire, he will cross very well with mares lacking a little size or requiring a stronger back and higher balance. He will appreciate being bred to mares with good blood, rather stiff to rigid, and even with a delicate character. He’ll bring his suppleness, ample gesture and application.
