Since we began using oocyte puncture, we have always attached particular importance to mare comfort.
We have eliminated epidural anaesthesia and adapted sedation as required. In addition, we have hired a veterinarian to manage the mare’s well-being. She stands at the mare’s head and monitors all signs of possible and rare discomfort, so as to intervene quickly and effectively. requires puncture teams to adapt their gestures.
To date, thanks to this thorough and evolving protocol, we can affirm that we work without any discomfort for the mare, and this is confirmed by studies carried out in 2016 concerning mare comfort during oocyte punctures. This research shows that parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate, changes in facial expression and salivary cortisol levels undergo no significant changes, indicating minimal and transient discomfort (Rodrigo Diego, C. Douet, F. Reigner, T. Blard, J. Cognié, S. Deleuze, G. Goudet, 2016).
In this way, our method guarantees maximum well-being for the mares throughout the entire procedure.
